The 2019 Infiniti QX30 ranks in the top half of the luxury subcompact SUV class, thanks in part to its opulent cabin, generous features list, and composed ride.

The 2019 Infiniti QX30 is ranked:

  • #4 in Luxury Subcompact SUVs
  • #24 in Luxury SUVs with 2 Rows

Is the Infiniti QX30 a Good SUV?

Yes, the Infiniti QX30 is a good luxury subcompact SUV. It offers an enthusiastic turbo-four engine and a comfortable ride. High-quality materials line its cabin, and the QX30 offers plenty of standard features, which is impressive considering it’s one of the most affordable models in its class. Fuel economy is fantastic too. It has a slightly sporty ride, though it leans more toward comfort. It's not perfect, though. Some adults might feel cramped in the back seats, and while this Infiniti has a nice amount of cargo space behind the rear seats, many rivals have more total room when their rear seats are folded down.

Should I Buy the Infiniti QX30?

If you’re looking for a cruiser that offers a great value, consider the QX30. However, if you want a little more space for passengers and cargo, check out the Volvo XC40. The BMW X1 and Mercedes-Benz GLA both cost a bit more, but they have more spirited performance and sharper handling, as well as more cargo room.

Should I Buy a New or Used Infiniti QX30?

Infiniti introduced the QX30 as an all-new crossover for the 2017 model year. Neither the 2018 nor 2019 model saw any major changes, so you could likely save money while getting a nearly identical vehicle by purchasing a used QX30.

Infiniti QX30 Versus the Competition

Which Is Better: Infiniti QX30 or Mercedes-Benz GLA?

The Mercedes-Benz GLA shares the same base powertrain and fuel economy estimates as the QX30. It has deft handling and holds its own on winding roads, while the high-performance AMG model offers a lot more horsepower. The Mercedes also has more cargo room than the Infiniti. On the other hand, the QX30 has more premium cabin materials and a gentler ride. Additionally, the Infiniti's starting price is about $3,800 less than that of the entry-level Mercedes-Benz. Choosing between these two is a matter of preference.

Which Is Better: Infiniti QX30 or Jaguar E-Pace?

The Jaguar E-Pace is not a great luxury subcompact SUV. Rear-seat space is tight, and the interior includes some cheap-feeling plastics. That’s disappointing for a vehicle with such a high MSRP. Compared to the base QX30, the E-Pace costs around $8,300 more. The Jaguar is less fuel-efficient as well, and its engines don’t feel lively. On the plus side, the E-Pace has lots of cargo space and standard all-wheel drive. But that’s not enough for us to recommend it over the Infiniti.

How Many People Does the QX30 Seat?

In its standard setup, this crossover seats five people on cloth upholstery. Leatherette and leather upholstery, power-adjustable and heated front seats, and sport-styled synthetic leather seats with added side support are available.

The front seats are comfortable and supportive. The back seats have enough space for two adults, though legroom is tight for taller passengers. Rearward visibility is poor due to thick pillars and a low roofline, though some available safety features make this a little easier to deal with.

QX30 and Car Seats

For securing child car seats, this subcompact crossover has two complete sets of LATCH connectors on the rear outboard seats.

QX30 Interior Quality

This Infiniti has a handsome cabin full of premium materials. Higher trims offer elegant touches like Nappa leather and wooden accents. However, some harsh road and wind noise may permeate the cabin.

QX30 Cargo Space

This crossover SUV has 19.2 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats and 34 cubic feet with them folded down. The first figure is great for the class, but most rivals, including the Audi Q3, have more total space.

QX30 Infotainment, Bluetooth, and Navigation

The Infiniti QX30 comes standard with the InTouch infotainment system, which includes a 7-inch touch screen, satellite radio, HD Radio, a six-speaker stereo, two USB ports, and Bluetooth. Available features include a navigation system, a Wi-Fi hot spot, wireless device charging, a 10-speaker Bose stereo, and a panoramic moonroof.

The user-friendly infotainment system features a responsive touch screen along with physical controls for some settings. However, the touch screen is set far back in the dash and neither Apple CarPlay nor Android Auto is available.

Infiniti QX30 Performance

QX30 Engine: Simply Capable

Infiniti offers one powertrain in the QX30: a 208-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Acceleration is decent, and the turbo-four engine eagerly propels the SUV up to speed for highway merging. Some reviewers think the transmission shifts smoothly, while others find that its shifts are unrefined.

QX30 Mileage: To Infinity and Beyond

This SUV gets an EPA-estimated 24 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway. Those are some of the best ratings in the class. Models with AWD get a slightly lower 21/30 mpg.

QX30 Ride and Handling: Gentle and Balanced

The QX30 cruises over rough pavement and maneuvers easily around tight areas. While some rivals are more fun to drive, the QX30 holds its own on winding roads. Front-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is available.

Infiniti QX30 Reliability

Is the Infiniti QX30 Reliable?

The 2019 Infiniti QX30 does not have a predicted reliability rating from J.D. Power at the time of this writing.

Infiniti covers the 2019 QX30 with a basic warranty lasting four years or 60,000 miles and a powertrain warranty lasting six years or 70,000 miles. That’s longer than the warranties of most rivals.

Infiniti QX30 Safety

Infiniti QX30 Crash Test Results

Neither the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety nor the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has crash tested the QX30. This is not unusual for luxury vehicles.

Infiniti offers the QX30 in four trim levels: Pure, Luxe, Essential, and Sport. In previous model years, the Luxe trim was called the Luxury, and the Essential trim level was called the Premium. All trims share the same turbo four engine and seven-speed automatic transmission.

The base trim is nicely equipped, but we recommend the Luxe. It’s the first trim available with more safety active features and all-wheel drive, and it adds a few standard comfort upgrades as well.

All-wheel drive is only available in the Luxe and Essential trims. A Wi-Fi hot spot can be added to any trim for $495, and a wireless smartphone charger costs $250.

Infiniti QX30 Pure

The Infiniti QX30 Pure has an MSRP of $30,150. Its standard features list includes a 7-inch touch screen, satellite radio, HD Radio, a six-speaker stereo, two USB ports, Bluetooth, proximity keyless entry, push-button start, dual-zone automatic climate control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, automatic headlights, and alloy wheels. You’ll also get a few safety features, such as forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and a rearview camera.

There are no notable packages offered with this trim.

Infiniti QX30 Luxe

The Infiniti QX30 Luxe retails for $33,000. It adds synthetic leather upholstery, heated front seats, eight-way power-adjustable front seats, and a panoramic moonroof.

AWD costs $2,000. For $2,300, you can get the Navigation package, which adds front and rear parking sensors, a surround-view parking camera, and a navigation system.

Infiniti QX30 Essential

The Infiniti QX30 Essential starts at $39,200. In addition to the contents of the Navigation package, it features a 10-speaker premium Bose sound system, leather seats, blind spot monitoring, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and fog lights.

The Final Call

The 2019 Infiniti QX30 is a small, comfortable luxury vehicle that represents a great value. It has a good number of standard features, an energetic engine, and a gentle, mildly sporty ride. It's also one of the most affordable luxury subcompact SUVs on the market. Some rivals have more agile handling or total cargo space, but they cost a few thousand dollars more.
