Keep Your Head Down Meaning

A young American soldier, blessed with the sure touch of the “born” journalist and a deep personal understanding of what it means to be an active participant in this war, tells here the story of his three eventful years in camp and in combat. Beginning at Fort Benning, Georgia, on a fine afternoon in 1941 with the war three thousand miles away, and ending in Marshal Tito’s headquarters in Yugoslavia in 1944, Sergeant Bernstein’s war adventures have taken him to many fronts in many countries. While he was still in the United States he served with the famous 8th Infantry of the 4th Infantry Division, watched the paratroopers train, did publicity for This Is the Army. Then came two months on a freighter as guest of the U.S. Army. He was with a regimental intelligence detachment in Italy, and did reconnaissance work in Sicily. Once he was lost from his regiment and wandered about alone, seeking his, outfit, through the terribly dangerous battle area. He marched into Yugoslavia with fifty Partisans to Marshal Tito’s headquarters. They climbed tortuous mountain trails and crossed through German-occupied territory for seven days. Bernstein was the first correspondent to interview Tito. These experiences are exciting in themselves, and Bernstein is a skilled and sensitive reporter who presents his story in an enviably simple and graphic manner, without heroics or sentimentality. He is not just a correspondent writing about the men who are fighting for us. He is himself one of them.

This is my first picture book. This book, Keep Your Head Down, A Book about Golf Terminology, is the first of a series entitled I Only Like Sports. Books will follow on the sports of soccer, baseball, football and basketball. I published the non-fiction book, Under the Sun: A Look at Solomon, Ecclesiastes and Our Faith, in 2012. In 2011, I retired from thirty-four years of teaching in the public schools of Florida. During the thirty-four years, I served as a teacher and media specialist at all grade levels. I have also worked as an adjunct at North Florida Community College in Madison, Florida and Flagler College in St. Augustine, Florida. My husband and I reside in our country home on the banks of the Suwannee River in North Central Florida. We have two sons and five grandchildren. In this picture book, Eagle finds a way to become a hero that pleases his family. Eagle has a big brother named Birdie and a baby brother named Albatross. . Eagles Dad is Daddy Bogey; the mother is Mama Double Bogey; and the teacher is Miss Green. A family tree with given names has been included for use as inside back and front covers. The story is narrated in the first person with Eagle reflecting with the reader and his family. Keep Your Head Down: A Book about Golf Terminology is the first of a fun series of books, I Only Like Sports, with characters and storyline involved in a specific sport. Terminology for that sport is used throughout the storyline. At the end of the story, a golf-term glossary is included. Each book in the series has a fictional storyline where a specific scripture verse from the Bible is applied in an everyday situation.

An award-winning poet highlights the vibrant history of his generation in a farewell to Vietnam, the chaotic sixties, and their long aftermath. “We tend to write about what will not go away,” Doug Anderson says in this candid, darkly humorous journey of self-discovery. Beginning in 1943, in the pre–civil rights South filled with tobacco and war stories, he recalls the difficult childhood that propels him into service in Vietnam. In 1967, having returned home deeply shaken by his experience as a combat medical corpsman, Anderson plunges into the heady freedoms and excesses of the sixties. His downward spiral—through booze, substance abuse, and sex—brings him dangerously close to a total breakdown. Finally, in a return group visit to Vietnam in 2000, he meets with former enemies now become writers and poets. Moved by the realization that “the last time I saw these people they were trying to kill me,” Anderson confronts the past and calls upon a story—this powerful story—to rebuild a life.

Three complete novels in one volume from a master of dark noir and comic mystery.. PINK VODKA BLUES Russell Murray is the editor of a literary magazine in Chicago. He drinks way too much. And he's in big trouble when he wakes up in a hotel room with a beautiful woman just before two men come into the room and kill her. They try to kill Murray, too, but he gets away. Things never slow down after that. Wanted for murder, Murray winds up in a detox center in Wisconsin. He escapes along with a beautiful redhead named Sherry Lou Wynn. One of his many problems is that he has no memory of where he's been or what he's done. He and Sherry Lou try to stay alive while being pursued around the country by homicidal goons, including the murderous Wacker twins and a blue-haired, tennis-shoe wearing granny with an Uzi. Bones Pinelli wants his briefcase back, by golly, and he doesn't care who dies as long as he gets it. DEAD DOG BLUES Nothing ever happens in Pharaoh, Texas.. Drunks and missing auto parts headline the local crime wave until a barking dead dog shows up in millionaire Max Coomer's backyard. Then Coomer himself is discovered frosty cold and very dead, running for fame and glory forever down the gridiron at Pharaoh High. That's just the beginning of the mayhem that erupts in a sleepy Texas town — and the start of temporary constable Jack Track's nightmarish pursuit of a maniac who doesn't like anyone in Pharaoh, Texas. There are enough bizarre characters in Dead Dog Blues to convince any reader to steer clear of small towns. There's Jack's best friend, Earl Murphy, a black man who made a fortune on Wall Street and sleeps in his white Aston-Martin Lagonda by Jack's creek. There's George, the catfish mogul, and cheery funeral director Eddie Trost —plus an ever-growing cast of the local missing and dead. Jack is content with lovely Cecily Benét, the frozen-yogurt queen, until Max Coomer's widow, Millie Jean, decides to fan the flames of her high-school romance with Jack — an affair that turns into double trouble when Millies jailbait daughter, Smoothy, takes a run at Jack herself. BAD EYE BLUES Dinner with gorgeous aeronautical engineer Claire de Mer holds the promise of heavenly bliss for Wiley Moss — until two manic mobsters toss him on a cross-country bus and shuffle him off to Idaho. Hey, no big deal. All Vinnie 'Spuds' DeMarco wants from Wiley, who earns his living making illustrations of insects for the Smithsonian Institution, is 'semi-decent pitchas — no smut — 'of his eighteen resident cuties, naturally named the Spudettes. Nice work if you can get it, only Wiley can't seem to find the time for romance and art. Someone's knocking off the hoods at the Mount Vincent High Country Lodge and Whitewater Resort — someone with an attitude who wants everybody dead.

More and more parents are taking their children out onto the golf course, yet few of them are effective teachers or coaches. With this book, Tiger Woods' childhood golf instructor, Rudy Duran, instructs parents on how to nurture confidence and enthusiasm in young players. Golf can be a frustrating and complex game, and beginners, especially children and young adults, can easily become disheartened and overwhelmed. Children are naturally optimistic, which makes them terrific learners. Duran discusses how parents can preserve and foster their child's positive outlook, and keep out the negative qualities that end up plaguing so many golfers. Duran cultivates players' enthusiasm by making lessons fun, and basic. With anecdotes and step-by-step techniques, he offers a formula for parents who are struggling to find the balance between encouraging and instructing their children in the world of golf.

Filling a significant gap in the cross-cultural and cross-disciplinary literature within the field of Pasifika (Polynesian) and Maori identities and mental health, this volume focuses on bridging mental health related research and practice within the indigenous communities of the South Pacific. Much of the content reflects both differences from and relationships with the dominant Western theories and practices so often unsuccessfully applied with these groups. The contributors represent both experienced researchers and practitioners and address topics such as research examining traditional and emerging Pasifika identities; contemporary research and practice in working with Pasifika youth and adolescents; culturally-appropriate approaches for working with Pasifika adults; and practices in supervision that have been developed by Maori and Pasifika practitioners. Chapters include practice scenarios, research reports, analyses of topical issues, and discussions about the appropriateness of applying Western theory in other cultural contexts. As Pasifika cultures are still primarily oral cultures, the works of several leading Maori and Pasifika poets that give voice to the changing identities and contemporary challenges within Pacific communities are also included.

Rosa lives in a walnut orchard across from the retirement community in which McXain lives with his wife, whose own heart is failing fast. Failing almost as fast are Rosa's twin careers as a walnut farmer and wood sculptor, and McXain's stint as a winery owner. Both Rosa and McXain have plans to stay their descents. And both of these plans intersect at Rosa's heart. Obsession and intrigue are the main ingredients that form the base of Harvesting Rosa Sweetnail. Added to it are dollops of bankruptcy, desperation, undying love, and perhaps that most elusive of all spices: cannibalism.
